Sue Franks

     An accomplished author and artist, Sue Franks brings her love of the south and her life experience living in other places to her writing and her art.  Sue grew up in Perry County, married and moved away, returning years later with her husband and children to scenic middle Tennessee to live, paint, and write on her families homeplace.  Her writing and art reflect her southern roots and  culture.
     Sue teaches oil painting at the Buffalo River Artisans Co-op.  Her paintings are now on display at the Artisans Co-op and at the Commodore Hotel.   Sue's books, Barker's Pond and Do-Gooders, can be purchased at the Buffalo River Artisans Co-op - local store or this website- or from  Both books are mysteries and have a lot of local flavor. She has published a cookbook as well, Cookin' and Quiltin' with the Jolly Dozen.  It contains simple, old family recipes, plus quilt patterns from the famous Jolly Dozen, who quilted at her mother's grocery store every Monday for almost 40 years in Linden, TN.       Sue lives in Linden on property that has been in her family for over 150 years.  She is on the board of the Perry County Chamber of Commerce, and serves as president of the Perry County Cultural Arts Commission.  Sue is also a member of the Buffalo River Writers' group, and is currently working on her third novel.
